Scenes from Marco Island Vacation

(download)

We have been privileged the past two New Year's holidays to be able to spend the week in Marco Island, at the Marriott Resort.  It is a terrific place, highly recommended if you are thinking of a vacation on the Florida Gulf Coast, and it is terrific for families. The beach is beautiful and large, and very well maintained, and there are plenty of restaurants and activities to choose from.

I am no professional photographer (nor do I have the equipment, and on what equipment I do have the battery was dying so I had no time to achieve perfection), so these photos may not give the place justice. But trust me, it is beautiful.

Stickmen in Peril. But their sacrifice helps ensure your safety

Media_httpwwwmentalflosscomblogswpcontentuploads2009121290357276858169261jpg_fbawdbnijakfhog

Let's hear it for the stickman, whose willingness to probe the dangers of an environment and report back on the disasters encountered can be a life-saver for you.

This one is the oddest of the bunch (and I'd respond that you can keep your da** hands off my despair), but the "Do not Taunt the Octopus" one is a close second. The first one looks pretty poorly Photoshopped.

12 unrecognizable before and after views of cities

Media_httpcachewistscomthumbnails2772772f83c7f85ca9b9e7c0855ea77868fmed_jidrrxqjxguibai

A fascinating show comparing view of cities before and after major events such as wars (Kabul - shown above), natural catastrophes (San Francisco), or speculative bubbles (Dubai). I've seen the Detroit photos before an they show in an unmatched way the deterioration of that once-fine (yes, I said Detroit was "fine") city.
